NATCHEZ DELTA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION IS ESTABLISHED!!!!
Perhaps you have noticed the flurry of activity at 409 Union Street, formerly the home of both the Natchez Health Department and the Sunshine Shelter. There have been workers donned in familiar colors (Red and White) and other volunteers getting the property in ship-shape condition. Natchez Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is now the proud owner of that familiar location. When it served as The Sunshine Shelter, members of Natchez Alumnae donated hours of community service to the children who resided there. “It is inspiring,” said chapter President Pamela B. Plummer, “how this is a full-circle process. For years we performed various types of community service at this location. Now, we own the building and will continue to perform community service at this location.”
The process of obtaining the property has been a long one, but one that is well worth the wait. For years, the dream of owning a “Delta House” has been a topic of conversation among the chapter members. When the opportunity to acquire this location became available, it became a win-win situation. According to President Plummer, “On April 04, 2014, because of the dedicated commitment of the members of Natchez Alumnae Chapter, this dream became a reality. Without that commitment, this would never have happened.”
Natchez Alumnae Chapter was chartered on November 17, 1977. Since that time, the chapter members have been visible in the community performing countless hours of community service related to the Sorority’s Five – Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.
Natchez Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is proud to be the first Greek-Letter organization in the area to become property owners. “We are proud property owners,” said President Plummer, “and the neighborhood will be proud to have us as neighbors. We will definitely be good stewards of the property that we now own.”
